MEPS APPROVE BUDGET FOR MINISTRY OF MICROFINANCE

Dakar, Nov 28 (APS) - The deputies adopted, Friday evening, the draft budget of the Ministry of Microfinance and Social and Solidarity Economy, to which 10 billion 669 million 195 thousand 597 CFA francs have been granted for the year 2021, found the APS.

The debate prior to the vote was led by the First Vice-President of the National Assembly, Abdou Mbow, in the presence of the Minister of Microfinance and Social and Solidarity Economy, Zahra Iyane Thiam, and the Minister of Finance and Budget, Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo.

According to a report by the Law Committee of the National Assembly, the draft budget of this ministerial department includes four programs, including the promotion of microfinance and the social and solidarity economy.

The ministry plans, for the 2021 fiscal year, "the operationalization of the National Microfinance Fund, the adoption of the law on the orientation of the social and solidarity economy", etc.

Under the National Assembly's rules prohibiting meetings from being held after midnight, only nine speakers divided between the majority, the opposition and the non-attached members spoke at the meeting, which started late in the evening.

Above all, they challenged Zahra Iyane Thiam on the need to "pool" financing instruments to mobilize more resources.

He was asked to pay "special attention" to Islamic finance because of its importance.

"Beyond the training of the actors of this alternative mode of financing, the modification of the regulation has already been made by the BCEAO", the central bank of which Senegal is a member, stressed the minister, still speaking of Islamic finance.

This financing backed by the recommendations of Islam "has no impact on the secular character of the Republic of Senegal," she said.
