During the first quarter, the external trade of the member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union showed a deficit.

CFAF 829.8 billion. This is the overall deficit amount of trade in the WAEMU zone during the first quarter of 2022. According to a recent report of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) surplus of 1,873.3 billion CFA francs would have been recorded a year earlier. In its document, the central bank indicates that this development is mainly linked to a sharp deterioration in the current balance, due in particular to the increase in the oil and food bill and freight.
