On Monday, October 20, 2025, the president of the National Commission on Illicit Enrichment (CNEI), Nestor Mbou, officially launched the self-assessment of Gabon as part of the second cycle of the mechanism for the review of the implementation of the Convention on United Nations Against Corruption (UNCAC). This launch took place during of a meeting held in Libreville in the presence of members of the Commission, the national rapporteurs and the evaluation team.

The official launch of the Gabon self-assessment was coordinated by CNLCEI. It marks a new stage in commitment of Gabon in favor of transparency and the moralization of public life. It intervenes in a context of institutional consolidation that has begun since the beginning of the political transition, and is part of the will of the authorities to strengthen ethical governance mechanisms. The second review cycle focuses on two fundamental chapters of the Convention. Chapter II on the prevention and chapter V on asset recovery.

According to the President of the Commission, these components constitute “the first line of defense against corruption” and” a question of justice and national sovereignty.” The evaluation aims to identify structural vulnerabilities, to valorize best practices and to propose concrete improvements to the legislative framework and institutional.

The national evaluation team is responsible for collect, compile and validate the data required to write the self-assessment report. It is composed of experts from different sectors.

́The President of the CNLCEI has Recalled that the Commission acts in accordance with Law No. 002/2020 amending certain provisions of Law No. 003/2003 establishing and operating of the CNLCEI.
