The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) announced on Friday, March 5, that it had released the sum of 2 million USD to fight cybercrime and strengthen the resilience of digital payment systems in Africa. In a statement, the AfDB said the project “will take a three-pronged approach: creating an affordable shared platform to monitor cyberattacks against financial service providers and individual customers; deployment of individualized consulting services to enable organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity; and improving cybersecurity talent development to ensure that the demand for African expertise can be met.” This funding through the Facility for Digital Financial Inclusion in Africa will enable the creation of an Africa Cybersecurity Resource Center (ACRC). He will be based in Dakar, Senegal. The project will potentially benefit 250 million vulnerable customers and 2,000-3,000 financial institutions across Africa.
