Morocco has established the fight against money laundering of capital and the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) as a national priority and strategic. The announcement was made on Thursday in Rabat by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

At a high level meeting with the representatives of the Middle East and Africa Financial Action Task Force North (GAFIMOAN), held in the presence of ministers and directors of the national institutions concerned, Aziz Akhannouch indicated that this orientation is in perfect coherence with the constitutional choice constant of the Kingdom aimed at consolidating the rule of law and strengthening the place of Morocco within the international financial system.

This commitment has resulted in the continuation of the reform process, especially after Morocco was removed from the grey lists of FATF and the European Union in 2023, through the strengthening of the framework legal and institutional as well as the modernization of the mechanisms of supervision, judicial and security, he maintained.

In order to raise the level of compliance with international standards and anchor a true culture of commitment, Akhannouch recalled that the national system has undergone a significant institutional evolution, through the strengthening coordination between the various national bodies concerned and the intensification of awareness-raising and training actions for the benefit of taxable persons, in particular in the non-financial sector.
