From now on in the WAEMU area, transfers of electronic currencies that do not exceed 5000 F CFA will be free at the national level. The same applies to electronic payments of water and electricity bills whose value is less than or equal to 50,000 CFA francs. This is the main decision taken by the BCEAO in conjunction with electronic currency institutions, in order to limit contact with physical currencies. In this press release below, the BCEAO specifies that it is a question of limiting the spread of Covid-19.
