On 16 December 2020, the Council of Ministers adopted the draft ordinance on the Finance Law for the financial year 2021, which takes the form of the programme budget.

The budget revenue forecast amounts to 2155 billion 161 million CFA francs against 2145 billion 627 million in the 2020 amending law, an increase of 9 billion 535 million corresponding to a rate of increase of 0.44%. Expenditure forecasts amount to 2808 billion 88 million CFA francs, against 2864 billion 976 million CFA francs in the 2020 amended budget, a decrease of 56 billion 888 million CFA francs, equivalent to a reduction rate of 1.99%.

In addition, the draft budget for 2021 shows an overall deficit of 652 billion 927 million, against 719 billion 349 million in the 2020 amended budget, a decrease of 9.23%.

 

Under expenditure, the focus will be on " taking charge of the actions of the Transition roadmap;  strengthening defence and security means; fighting COVID-19; improving the living conditions of the population;  operationalising new public services;  strengthening the system judicial th; and the implementation of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali, resulting from the Algiers process," the statement said.

The 2021 budget presented in program mode takes into account the objectives of the program supported by the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the targets of the convergence criteria of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
