Emmanuel Macron was re-elected Sunday to the presidency of the Republic with about 58% of the vote against Marine Le Pen (about 42%) according to the first estimates, a clear victory tempered by the unprecedented score of the extreme right and a high abstention (28%).
The euro was rising and other major currencies after Emmanuel Macron's re-election as French president, with foreign exchange traders betting on a strengthening of the EU. Around 19:10 GMT (21:10 CET), in the first hours of trading on Monday in Asia and Australia, the single currency took 0.48% to 1.0842 dollar.
