cash+, this is the name of the future digital euro that has been projected since 2019 and has been officially tested since last year.

The European Central Bank's digital currency now has a name. On this project BCE has come a long way since Christine Lagarde first said about it. Now, the ECB's future digital currency has an official name: Cash+. According to this official document from the Banque de France, it will be available around 2027-2028

The ECB is one of the first to launch its project, with a digital euro whose contours remained uncertain for many months. Cash+ and centralized stablecoin, like Tether's USDT or Circle's USDC, don't have that many differences. Cash+ could work offline for a high level of confidentiality. However, offline mode is mostly a guarantee for security, not for privacy. Finally, the holding ceiling is problematic, whereas cash has no ceiling.
