Fitch Ratings lowered the default issuer rating (IDR) on February 14, 2023 to long-term (LT) in local currency (LC) from Ghana to the restricted default rating (RD) of “C”.

Fitch confirmed the long-term IDR in foreign currencies (FC) from Ghana to 'C& #39;. The agency lowered the rating based on the rating factors indicated as follows; the deterioration of Ghana's local currency denominated debt follows the completion of a domestic debt swap offer by the Republic of Ghana. A transaction that is an element of the stimulus program for which the government is seeking support from IMF.

All holders, except pension funds, of 67 eligible bonds governed by Ghanaian law and denominated in Ghanaian cedis (GHS) were invited to exchange their assets for new bonds with the same overall principal amount, plus applicable and unpaid capitalized charges. Also, Fitch style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, "serif"">lowered the issuance rating of Ghana's notes denominated in US dollars ; dying in October 2030 to “CC” from “B-” on December 21, 2022. Noted that Fitch style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, "serif">does not generally assign rating perspectives to rulers with a rating of “CCC+” or lower.
