On Wednesday, the African Development Bank (AfDB) granted a loan of 120.9 million euros (79 billion CFA francs) to Senegal to finance its emergency food production program.

The agreement was signed by Senegal's Minister of the Economy, Planning and Cooperation, Amadou Hott, and Mohamed Chérif, the AfDB's local representative. The main results and effects expected from the program are the production of 600,000 tons of cereals (rice, corn, millet), 120,000 tons of cowpeas and 150,000 tons of potatoes. This will enable about 850,000 households, 20% of which are headed by women, to have secure access to sufficient quality seeds and inputs. The various achievements will have a positive effect on household incomes, as well as on the country's food and nutritional security situation.
