In Côte d'Ivoire, the international mechanism for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD+) set up its regional committee in Aboisso on August 10.

The committee will be responsible for raising awareness among the population to practice a zero deforestation agriculture through methods and other techniques implemented by the PROMIRE project. Indeed, Côte d'Ivoire aims to restore at least 20% of its forest cover by 2030. This newly installed committee is chaired by the regional prefect Coulibaly Gando who urges the committee to work to be the best committee, since the issue of deforestation is a concern for the government.

Furthermore, the installation of the said committee will be fueled by training of members on climate change, the REDD+ mechanism and forest landscape restoration strategies (National REDD+ Strategy and SPREF), PROMIRE, VNM and the National Forest Monitoring System (SNSF) etc.
