APA-Dakar (Senegal) By Massamba Sall Outstanding appropriations allocated by the financial systems
decentralized (SFD) of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) came out at 1555.6
billion FCFA (about 2.488 billion dollars) at the end of the fourth quarter of 2019, APA
Friday at the Central Bank of West African States (
BCEAO).
According to the issuing institute, this outstanding amount increased by 10% compared to its level at the end of December 2018.
This increase was observed in Mali (+26.7%), Togo (18.3%), Côte d'Ivoire (+16.9%), Senegal
(+5.0%), Burkina Faso (+4.6%) and Niger (1.4%). However, a decrease was noted in Guinea-Bissau
(-29.1%) and Benin (-2.6%).
"A share of 50.0% of the outstanding loans of microfinance institutions is made up of loans to
short term," says the
BCEAO. Medium- and long 18.6% over the period under review. The male clientele of sfDs benefited from 57.6% of the credits. La
women's clientele and groups benefit respectively from 30.3% and 15.6% of financing.
The average outstanding loans per beneficiary increased by 5.0% to CFAF 106,893 at end
December 2019 against 101,772 FCFA a year earlier.
The Central Bank points out that for the entire sector, outstanding loans represent 6.8% of
claims granted by WAEMU credit institutions.
An examination of the intermediation indicators of eu DFS shows a relatively
favourable to financial inclusion, with a gross rate of portfolio deterioration that has fallen
by one percentage point, coming out at 6.1% against 7.1% at the end of December 2018. The norm generally
allowed in the WAEMU zone is 3% in the sector.
As for the FSDs in difficulty, 16 microfinance institutions were under provisional administration at the end
December 2019, including 7 in Benin, 2 in Burkina Faso, 2 in Niger, 2 in Togo, one in Côte d'Ivoire, one in Mali and
one in Senegal.
