The business climate indicator in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) recorded a decline of 4.4 points in February 2020 compared to the previous month, according to data from the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO).

Since November 2019, this indicator was on an upward trend before coming out at 98.7 points in February 2020 against 103.1 points in January 2020. It is thus below its long-term average (100 points), reflecting, according to the Issuing Institute, " the opinion of a deterioration in supply conditions, a decrease in orders and a relatively unfavorable financial situation".

On the other hand, the pace of growth of the index of industrial production fell by 3.3 percentage points, from 6.6% in January to 3.0% in the period under review.

As for the retail trade turnover index, it was up 3.4% in February 2020 against 3.5% the previous month. The same trend is noted for the market services turnover index, which recorded an increase of 3.2% year-on-year, compared to 3.5% in January 2020.
