European stock exchanges are expected to open slightly higher on Tuesday as investors await the next steps in talks to end the war in Ukraine.

The in vitro diagnostic specialist bioMérieux for its part announced on Monday that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American health authority, had authorized a new method of sampling, via an anterior nasal swab, for its Biofire Spotfire test used to detect respiratory and pharyngeal infections

Vinci for its part announced that it had won a contract worth around 450 million euros to modernise a section of the Eastern Freeway motorway located in Melbourne, Australia.

Around 7:40 a.m., the CAC 40 futures contract gained 0.2%, according to data from broker IG.

This Tuesday, European index futures are rising timidly, in a cautious market the day after the meeting in Washington between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky and a delegation of European leaders on the conditions for a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

According to data from broker IG, the DAX 40 futures contract in Frankfurt rose by 0.1%, just like the one on the FTSE 100 in London, around 7:40am.

Donald Trump announced after his meetings with Europeans at the White House, that he had begun preparing for a meeting between the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

Donald Trump indicated on his Truth Social network that “after these meetings, I called President Putin and started preparations for a meeting, at a location to be defined, between President Putin and President Zelensky”.

The New York Stock Exchange closed without much change on Monday as investors awaited the outcome of the meeting in Washington on the Ukraine conflict.
The Dow Jones index lost 0.1% to 44,911.82 points, and the S&P 500 remained unchanged at 6,449.15 points. The Nasdaq Composite, rich in technological stocks, rose slightly, to 21,629.77 points.

In Asia, the Nikkei index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 0.1% on Tuesday at the end of trading. The Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.3%, while the Hang Seng on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange rose by 0.2%.

The two-year stock rate rose 0.8 basis points to 3.78% at around 7:40am. The 10-year US Treasury bond rate was unchanged at 4.34%.

The greenback lost 0.2% against the Japanese currency, at 147.66 yen around 7:40am. The euro was stable at 1.1665 dollars

Due to the prospect of a meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, oil prices are falling this morning. Around 7:40am, the October North Sea Brent contract listed in London lost 44 cents, or 0.7%, to $66.16 per barrel. The September contract for light sweet crude (WTI) listed on Nymex fell by 47 cents, or 0.7%, to $62.95 per barrel.

The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Mark Rutte, said that the Russian president had agreed to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart.

According to Bart Melek of TD Securities, “most issues, such as a ceasefire, security guarantees, and how the peace process will proceed, remain to be determined.” For the commodity strategy manager, “an outcome that would reduce tensions and eliminate threats of sanctions or secondary tariffs would lead to a drop in oil prices.”
