For violating federal anti-money laundering and sanctions laws due to shortcomings in the internal controls of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance's guilty plea and the penalty of over $4.3 billion has been accepted Friday by an American judge.

The plea includes a criminal fine of $1.81 billion and a forfeiture of $2.51 billion. Binance's plea announced in November ended a years-long investigation that found that the exchange did not report more than 100,000 suspicious transactions involving designated terrorist groups, including Hamas, Al Qaeda, and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (
