The largest African gold mine is currently the Kibali mine in DRC, which produces more than 700,000 ounces per year. But, AngloGold Ashanti has made “significant progress” in implementing its project to create the largest gold complex in Africa in Ghana, in partnership with the South African Gold Fields

According to Central Bank data, gold is Ghana's top export product with $7.6 billion in revenue in 2023. This represents 45% of Ghana's export earnings, far ahead of the combined revenues from crude oil and cocoa.
