Le samedi dernier, l' ingénieur of Fisheries and Head of the Artisanal Fisheries Division at the Ministry of Fisheries, Maritime and Port Infrastructures, Ibrahima Lô announced that the landings of small-scale fishing declined between 2011 and 2023.

Small-scale fishing landings increased from 372,956 tons to 349,932 tons in 2 years. According to the fishery engineer, in commercial value at the “first sale”, this is equivalent respectively to the sum of 157 billion CFA francs in 2023 against 111 billion CFA francs in 2011. Ibrahima Lô said during a panel on “regulations based on certification”, held during a day of reflection on the fishing sector at the initiative of the Union of Fisheries and Aquaculture Workers, that industrial fishing is characterized in 2023 by a national and foreign fleet composed of 161 vessels in 2020, including “129 Senegalese vessels for catch estimated at 75,770 tonnes.”
