The president of the Niger transition, General Abdourahamane Tiani was at an interview broadcast on national television on Saturday, August 3. He referred to the dispute between Niger and Benin.

The president of the Nigerian transition gave in a long development the reasons why he proposed maintaining the closure of his country's borders with Benin and also, why he is at odds with Patrice Talon. He recalled that following the ECOWAS decision to put Niger under embargo, President Talon ordered the stopping of all crossing of Nigerien vehicles at the Malanville border. This decision was seen as a punishment for Nigerians who dared to take their destiny into their own hands. President Tiani also denounced the presence of French intelligence agents in Benin, accused of carrying out destabilizing actions against Niger. He also said that these agents, under the guise of the fight against terrorism, were conducting reconnaissance and coordinating subversive actions from Beninese territory.
