Le gouvernement camerounais a ambitious goals for its plantain sector. The vision is to reach 7.5 million tons in the short term and 10 million tons by 2030.

Cameroon is the leading African producer of plantains with over 5.4 million tons per year, ahead of Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana. The country's government is organizing a unique event combining football and agriculture in order to achieve its goals and stimulate the sector. This is the 3rd edition of the International Plantain Banana Festival. In reality, two gala matches are scheduled for December 7 and 14, 2024 in Douala and Yaoundé opposing legends of Brazilian football to Cameroonian stars. The initiative aims to draw attention to the plantain sector, which employs nearly 6 million Cameroonians. On August 13, 2024, a partnership agreement was signed between Crtv (Public Capital Television) and the Banana-Plantain Sector, in the presence

of members of the government.

According to Tony Obam, president of the Cameroon Plantain Banana Federation (FBPC), “this is a unique opportunity to highlight our sector and attract the investments needed to meet the challenges we face”. The event is expected to attract 120,000 spectators, with a live broadcast on twenty television channels. Tickets will be sold between 10,000 and 50,000 FCFA. On the occasion, 800 exhibition stands will be available, offering opportunities to players in the sector and football fans.
