Ethiopia has launched its first sectoral expertise organization for agri-food. The country wants to redirect skills to priority development areas such as agriculture, which contributes 34% to GDP and 81% to jobs

The newly created organization brings together actors from the private and public sectors, training and certification agencies, as well as unions with the mission of promoting the development of skills in priority areas. It is a pilot project within the framework of the Sector Skills Body project, which aims to create similar institutions in all key development sectors. This project should ensure better professional integration of young people in order to continue to reduce the unemployment rate, which is around 5%, according to official data. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), the technical partner of the project, this demand driven approach, in conjunction with employers, promotes innovation and provides advanced training, skills matching and talent recognition for lifelong learning, which ultimately improves productivity.
