La 3e édition du Hackathon de la CEDEAO s' est tenue à Abuja from 15 to 16 October 2024. The event organized by ECOWAS in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy of Nigeria was the occasion for a competition in honor of technological innovation.

Extending over 30 hours, the 3rd edition of the ECOWAS Hackathon aims to stimulate technological innovations in the cybersecurity sector. Thus, it was designed as a platform for creativity and encourages the various participants to create innovative solutions to counter the growing number of cyber threats on the continent. On the occasion, a competition was organized during which each team proposed innovative ideas to respond to the cyber threats faced by ECOWAS countries. These teams are made up of young Africans aged 18 to 35. According to ECOWAS, the objective of this competition is to “identify and promote local talent in order to ensure that the region remains competitive on the global stage”. According to Sédiko DOUKA, ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure and Digitalization, this annual competition has already proven its effectiveness in revealing bright young minds and stimulating innovation

.

The Ivorian team won the competition after having demonstrated its mastery and ability to take on complex challenges. This victory symbolizes not only the rise of Côte d'Ivoire in the technological field, but also the commitment of ECOWAS to encourage young people to position themselves as major players in innovation
