For the first time in West Africa, Cotonou will host the Economic and Commercial Mission of La Francophonie (MECF) in June 2025.

The International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) has officially designated Benin as the host country of the next Economic and Commercial Mission of La Francophonie (Mecf). This confirms the strategic position of Benin as a key player in economic exchanges in the French-speaking world. The MECFs aim to strengthen economic exchanges between French-speaking countries. According to a statement from the OIF, before the selection of Benin, a rigorous evaluation process was carried out, taking into account criteria such as political and health security, guaranteeing a favorable environment for an event of this size; the logistical and infrastructure capacities to host international delegations; the geographical rotation of MECFs, which aims to promote the various regions of the French-speaking world.
