A press release announced that the Shelter-Africa Board of Directors has approved a line of credit of 13 million US dollars to the second largest bank in Mauritania, the Banque Populaire de Mauritania (Bpm).

The loan approved by the Pan African Housing Development Finance Corporation is for 10 years with a 24-month moratorium. It will be used to provide mortgages to civil servants and staff of well-established private and parastatal companies. According to the interim managing director of Shelter-Africa; Kingsley Muwowo, the line of credit will allow the bank to expand its affordable housing operations and help solve the housing shortage problem in Mauritania.

Kingsley Muwowo said that “many African countries are facing a housing shortage and Mauritania is no exception. The approval of the $13 million facility at the People's Bank of Mauritania reaffirms our commitment to address Mauritania's housing shortage by providing affordable housing solutions for its citizens.”
