Opera1er, a group of hackers, stole approximately $11 million from businesses in several African countries, including Gabon, and in other countries around the world, such as Argentina, Bangladesh, and Paraguay. The facts took place between 2018 and 2022.

In its new report entitled “OPERA1ER. Play God without authorization”, the Group-IB, the world leader in cybersecurity based in Singapore, has just unveiled a new criminal. The report, produced in collaboration with researchers from CERT Orange, looks at the actions of OPERA1ER, a network of French-speaking hackers with financial motives, to explore their offensives in detail.

The attacks were mainly aimed at French-speaking countries, including Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo and, in East Africa, Uganda. Outside the continent, Argentina, Bangladesh and Paraguay were also victims of the attack. Most of the victims identified were the subject of two successful attacks, and their infrastructure was then used as a hub to attack other organizations.
