One of the flagship initiatives for Morocco's new customs reforms will be the launch of a system for marking petroleum products. A device that will be designed to strengthen transparency in the energy sector and fight against tax evasion linked to the import and distribution of hydrocarbons. Indeed, the draft finance law (PLF) for 2025, which accompanies these reforms, detailed the main objectives of this new marking system. The main objective of this marking will be to limit fraud in the hydrocarbon sector, where fiscal losses due to illegal practices represent a significant part of the missing public revenue. This reform is also part of a broader framework of green reforms, which aim to align the country's economic practices with environmental sustainability goals.
