Lors du troisième congrès des avocats of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) zone held on Friday September 20, 2024 in Abidjan, the lawyers affirmed their commitment to the transparency of financial flows.

The third congress took place over three days around the theme “ten years of application of Regulation No. 05: back to the future of lawyers in the UEMOA area”. It recommended the development of a practical guide to the application of the new UEMOA Directive on the Fight against Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism (LTB/FT), promulgated on 31 March 2023, specifically aimed at lawyers in space. The participants in the congress recommended the organization of a framework for regular dialogue between the bars and the supervisory, supervisory and regulatory authorities, in order to adjust practices based on feedback on the protection of lawyers from legal proceedings. The participants also highlighted the need to harmonize the initial and continuing training of lawyers and made recommendations for the adoption of a procedural manual relating to the processing of applications for establishment by the bars of the UEMOA area, as well as the establishment of an observatory of freedoms and human rights. The President of the Côte d'Ivoire Bar Association, Maître Claude Mentenon, on the occasion urged young lawyers to take charge of their destiny and to take up the challenge of competitiveness with dignity in a constantly changing world, where the lack of expertise does not allow hope of survival
