Since Monday, September 23, 2024, the Committee of Experts has held its traditional preparatory conference in Cotonou, Benin. This conference is being held as a prelude to the 2nd session of the year 2024 of the Ministers of the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets (CIMA)

La traditional preparatory conference intends to invest in the proposal of solutions for a more dynamic and competitive African insurance industry. Indeed, the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets (CIMA) brought together the 14 countries of the network from September 23 to October 6, 2024 to reflect on ways and mechanisms that could improve the image of the sector and allow insurers to exploit the full growth potential of insurance in each of the member states. On this occasion, the preparatory Committee of Experts will review the situation of the sector on the continent and conduct discussions likely to strengthen regulatory systems and encourage innovation in insurance services in order to meet the expectations of populations and businesses in Member States.

According to Hermann Orou Takou, Chief of Staff of the Minister of State for the Economy and Finance, “the challenges our countries face, whether climatic, economic, social or security, require answers. collective and adapted. We therefore have a responsibility to modernise and make more effective the insurance system in our countries to protect our populations and support our economies towards sustainable development.” For this reason, he said that “the work of this committee is of paramount importance because it will make it possible to discuss the reforms needed to strengthen our regulatory framework and promote innovation in the insurance sector.”

Yves Kokou, Deputy Director General of the Financial Sector, reaffirmed Benin's commitment to support CIMA's efforts to ensure the stability of financial markets and promote sound insurance practices.
