take bold steps to appropriate its resources.Afreximbank invited African leaders, policy makers, mining industry leaders and global partners to create jobs and build industries that will ensure the prosperity of future generations. Denys Denya, Senior Executive Vice President of the Afreximbank Group, said in a keynote speech at the Indaba ministerial symposium that the continent was at a crossroads and could either continue to export its wealth and remain a marginal player in the global economy, or take bold steps to appropriate its resources. For the latter, “if the global mining industry generated around 1.7 trillion US dollars in revenue in 2023, Africa's share in this African wealth remains disproportionately low
.”“ Africa has the resources, trade potential, and strategic frameworks needed to move from a resource-dependent continent to an industrial powerhouse. However, success will depend on the bold and decisive action of all stakeholders. Decision-makers need to implement clear and enforceable regulations that require the creation of local added value and create favourable environments for investment. Private sector investors need to increase capital and technology in order to develop processing, refining and manufacturing facilities,” he said. According to him, “the choice is ours. It is time for action. Governments, financial institutions, investors and industry players, let's work together to build an Africa where mining is not only about extraction, but also about transformation, innovation, and wealth creation.”
African Mining Indaba 2025 will end on February 6, 2025. It is the first gathering where African decision makers, industry leaders, and global partners work to shape the future of the African mining sector.
