Grâce à l' adoption croissante des services en ligne, la digitalization of businesses and the development of technological infrastructures, Cameroon is experiencing an accelerated digital transformation acute;. But businesses and public institutions are more exposed to cyberattacks

.

Kaspersky, a private Russian multinational company specializing in information system security, organized on 12 and 13 February 2024 in Douala and Yaoundé, Knext, a conference to raise awareness among information system managers on the various vulnerabilities and methods of protection. These events brought together economic and institutional actors to analyze growing threats and propose solutions adapted to the reality of Cameroon. In reality, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART), the country had more than 10 million Internet users in 2024, with Internet penetration estimated at 45%. In addition, the rise of online transactions, cloud computing, and remote working is making businesses and public institutions more vulnerable to cyberattacks

.

Among the main threats identified, it is noted that “attacks exploiting security breaches (“exploits”) have almost doubled in one year, from 174,472 in 2023 to 333,930 in 2023 to 333,930 in 2024, an increase of 91%. 163,298 attacks via the RDP protocol (Remote Protocol Desktop) have been & detected, targeting poorly protected remote accesses. 139,395 backdoor attacks were recorded, giving cybercriminals clandestine access to business and government systems, facilitating data theft or the installation of malicious software”

.

These trends demonstrate the urgency for Cameroonian organizations to strengthen their digital defenses, by securing remote access, by adopting advanced cybersecurity solutions, and by making their employees aware of cyber risks. According to the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Libom Li Likeng, cybersecurity is of great importance in the country's digital strategy. It also illustrated the involvement of the authorities in the protection of digital infrastructures and the awareness of economic actors.

For Salmouth, Corporate Communication Manager Central and West Africa at Kaspersky, “Faced with a growing cyber threat, Cameroonian businesses and institutions must adopt a proactive approach to cybersecurity. The commitment of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in the KNext Yaoundé 2025 is a strong signal about the need for collective mobilization in the face of cyberattacks
