Since February 18 in Conakry, an IMF delegation has been on a mission to Guinea to take stock of the assistance granted by the Fund and to draw up its future relationships with this West African country. According to the head of this mission, Pilar Garcia Martinez, the IMF discussed with the Guinean authorities the use of the funds made available to them by the institution. The meeting with the IMF delegation aimed to clarify the actions to be taken before the establishment of the three-year financial support program.
The Minister of Economy and Finance Mourana Soumah indicated that the mission “presented to Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah the actions prior to the establishment of this program” including the establishment of “the reference price of bauxite and a timetable for the recovery of tax arrears.” According to him, the requirements essential to the implementation of the program, include the determination of a reference price for bauxite and the development of a schedule for the collection of tax arrears.
