The Banque Central African States (BEAC) has warned about the circulation of counterfeit coins on social networks in recent days.

The monetary institution warns against this erroneous information and recalls that only its official communication should be considered reliable.

In a statement signed on 6 March 2025, the governor of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), Yvon Sana Bangui, denounces the dissemination on social networks of photos and videos presenting supposed new 150 FCFA coins and 350 FCFA coins that will soon be in circulation. According to him, the regional monetary institution “is in no way at the origin of this false information and strongly denounces this gross manipulation, whose obvious objective is to deceive populations and to sow confusion.” He called these images a “crude” manipulation aimed at deceiving and confusing the subregion. In reality, the the introduction of new coins on the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) market is scheduled for early April 2025

.

According to the information, the existing notes of 1, 2, 5 and 10 FCFA, often ignored, will be maintained, but expanded, as will those of 25, 50, 100 and 500 FCFA. A major novelty lies in the introduction of a 200 FCFA coin, inspired by the old 50 FCFA coin from the 1960s
