The President of ECOWAS, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray received in audience a high-level delegation from the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM), led by its Director General, Dr. Baba Yusuf Musa. It was during a courtesy visit to Abuja

ECOWAS and WAIFEM took advantage of the meeting to reaffirm their commitment to deepen their collaboration to promote economic resilience, improve financial governance and stimulate sustainable growth in the region. This meeting highlighted the shared vision of the two institutions for a more prosperous and integrated West Africa, according to a press release made public on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Discussions focused on the need to intensify efforts to strengthen financial governance and build economic resilience in the face of regional and global challenges.

ECOWAS and WAIFEM agreed to collaborate closely in the areas of capacity building, policy harmonization, and knowledge sharing in order to support the region's sustainable development agenda. According to the President of ECOWAS, “this partnership with WAIFEM will strengthen our capacity to meet financial and economic challenges and pave the way for a more integrated and prosperous region. “The President of ECOWAS also reaffirmed that the 2027 deadline for the launch of the single currency of ECOWAS, theECO”, remained a priority

For his part, the Director General of WAIFEM underlined the commitment of the institute to provide training, technical assistance and research to improve the economic management and financial governance of the Member States.
