A ceremony was held on 20 March 2025 at the headquarters of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBT) to sign a memorandum of understanding for the ecological and economic aspects of the Lake Chad Basin (PARFEBALT). The signature was made between the CBLT and the African Development Bank.

PARFEBALT is part of the larger framework of integrated water resources management, with the aim of strengthening the resilience of local populations in the face of the harmful effects of climate change. This ambitious project has a total budget of 7.8 million units of account and focuses on three main areas. This involves the revitalization of Lake Chad through essential technical and environmental studies, the improvement of hydrometeorological monitoring to better anticipate the impacts of climate change and the strengthening of institutional capacities in order to ensure effective and sustainable management of resources. PARFEBALT's areas of intervention include Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria, Central African Republic and Chad. The implementation of this project is planned between 2025 and 2028, thus offering a favourable time frame to achieve these crucial objectives

The Executive Secretary of the CBLT, Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, “This is the first stage of the project that has just been completed, so we need a thorough study of the feasibility to know where and how they should intervene because there are some places such as Logone and Chari silted up, so you have to clear the sand and stabilize and especially & avoid creating damage elsewhere. This is why the importance of in-depth study comes in. And after that we will use donors to finance the project, this feasibility study may last 18 months.”
