The public oil company (Gabon Oil Company, GOC) is strengthening its grip on the sector with the conclusion of an agreement to buy Tullow Oil's assets for 300 million dollars. This operation is part of a dynamic initiated by the Gabonese State to increase its control over oil resources, after the acquisition of Assala Energy last year for 1.3 billion dollars. This new agreement is mainly part of a strategy of the new Gabonese executive aimed at maximizing national benefits by strengthening its control over resources. The integration of Tullow Oil's assets thus represents a new asset for consolidating energy sovereignty. The challenge for Gabon will lie in conducting effective management of these new assets, in modernizing oil infrastructures and in choosing technological partners to optimize the exploitation of mature fields
