Le Fonds International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appointed Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, founder and chairman of Heirs Holdings and UBA groups to the Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship and Growth. The inaugural meeting of the Advisory Council convened by the Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, took place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025

The Advisory Council includes global private sector leaders, policy makers, and academia, all committed to identifying and addressing regulatory barriers to entrepreneurship. Elumelu will play a key role in ensuring that Africa's entrepreneurial potential is at the heart of global economic decision-making. Its mandate is to recommend policies that improve the allocation of resources, stimulate innovation, and promote sustainable economic growth driven by the private sector.

Elumelu is in fact the main advocate for entrepreneurship in Africa and whose Foundation has funded, mentored and trained more than 25,000 African entrepreneurs since 2015. He sees entrepreneurship as the driver of Africa's economic transformation. His adherence to entrepreneurship is fundamental to his concept of Africapitalism, his belief that the African private sector can and should play a leading role in the development of the continent, making long-term investments that generate social and economic value
