.The supranational bank dedicated to the financing of oil and gas projects in Africa is preparing to start its activities, three years after the official announcement of its creation. At the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in du 05 au 08 mai 2025 Houston, United States, the minister indicated that “as members of the Organization of African Petroleum Producers (APPO), we are in partnership with Afreximbank which, at our last meeting, revealed that it will have an exposure of nearly $14 billion to the African Energy Bank. This amount and an additional $5 billion in initial capital will be transferred to AEB, bringing the total to $19 billion.” According to the minister, the new bank should start its activities during the second quarter of 2025.
Pour rappel, la AEB's main mission is to reduce the extent of the shortage of fossil fuel financing in Africa, in a context of increased disengagement of international donors in this sector.
