This partnership marks a new stage in CFC's commitment to accelerate the transition to responsible and sustainable African finance.The United Nations Environment Programme Financial Initiative is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme. It brings together more than 50 countries and supports its members in the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria through reference frameworks such as the Principles for Responsible Banking and the Principles for Sustainable Insurance. These institutions represent more than $170,000 billion in assets committed to the transition to a low-carbon economy
.By joining this alliance, Casablanca Finance City integrates an international network of experts and decision-makers and will actively participate in the strategic work of the initiative, in regional and global round tables, as well as in meetings -you must see at the United Nations such as the COP. This membership is a continuation of the actions carried out over the past several years by CFC and its ecosystem to promote sustainable finance in Africa. In particular, CFC contributed to the development of a road map in this area alongside the Moroccan financial authorities
.According to the Global Green Finance Index published in April 2025, Casablanca Finance City has been ranked the first financial center in Africa for eight years according to the Global Financial Centers Index (GFCI), and the first green financial center on the continent. According to the Director General of Casablanca Finance City Authority (CFCA), Saïd Ibrahimi, “joining the UNEP Financial Initiative is for CFC a strategic decision as well as an act of coherence. It reflects our desire to amplify our impact in sustainable finance and to include the African voice in the major international initiatives that are shaping the future of the financial sector. We want to contribute to structuring solutions adapted to emerging contexts and mobilize our entire community around climate transition and ESG integration.”
