The construction of the solar photovoltaic power plant is part of the national dynamic of energy transition and universal access to electricity by 2030. With a total cost of 61 million euros, in addition to the AfDB, this project benefits from an 8 million euro concession from the Fund for Sustainable Energy in Africa (SEFA), as well as co-financing by Proparco, the subsidiary of the French Development Agency (AFD) dedicated to the private sector. Technical development is provided by Électricity de France (EDF). According to Kevin Kariuki, AfDB Vice President in charge of Energy and Climate, “this project illustrates Togo's strong commitment to renewable energies and the catalytic role that the Bank can play in mobilizing mixed finance for structuring projects
in Africa.”This project is part of the Togo M300 Energy Pact, which aims to guarantee universal access to clean and reliable energy, and to increase installed renewable energy capacity to 200 MW by 2030. The power plant will produce around 87 gigawatt hours per year and reduce CO emissions by ₂ 13,600
tons per year.
