The Shelter Afrique Development Bank (SHAfDB) has signed a 15 million USD loan agreement with the Mauritanian Investment Bank (BMI) to support the construction of affordable housing in Mauritania.

This financing is part of Banque Shelter Afrique's strategy to strengthen access to decent housing for low and middle income categories in Africa, which should contribute to strengthening the housing finance system in Mauritania.

This loan will also contribute to the co-financing of the construction of 1000 housing units in the city of Zouerate, and to the development of 1000 plots of land in the municipality of Tevragh-Zeina, for the benefit of expatriates and residents of Mauritania.

On this occasion, the Director General of the Mauritanian Investment Bank, Mr. Mohamed Yahya Sidi, welcomed the agreement by saying: “Our institution is honored to work with the Shelter Africa Development Bank in order to finance middle class housing projects in Mauritania.

This financing is expected to create around 5000 jobs and benefit 12,400 people, and it will allow 2,000 families to access housing through self-construction or direct purchase.
