Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine announced that Niger wants to make nuclear energy a lever for African sovereignty and solidarity. According to him, Niger's presence at this forum was based on three major reasons. These include the commitment of a Burkinabe to the organization, the importance of uranium in the debates and the choice of Rwanda, a governance model, to host the event. For Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, “Niger is the largest African producer and the world's second largest producer of uranium. We could not remain absent from this meeting, which deals with a strategic subject for our continent.”
A producer of uranium for over fifty years, Niger controls the entire chain, from extraction to export. According to the Prime Minister, this expertise must now serve a national ambition. That of the local transformation of the resource.
