Local businesses are invited to pool their strengths to increase their chances of winning public contracts. The rate of public procurement contracts can be improved according to the Director General of ARMP, Saër Niang. According to him, “the national private sector must be trusted and allowed to win contracts. Today, if 67% of the markets are in its hands, alone or in groups, we may be able to improve to reach 80 or even 85%.”
To achieve this, he thinks, “the private sector is encouraged to go more in groups. There's no point in always going alone, being a singleton in a competitive environment. (Car) people can stand out by promoting clusters between local businesses. For his part, Saër Niang is convinced that if Senegal wants to have a strong national private sector, “the contracting authorities must play the game properly”.
