Le Council of Ministers on 6 March 2024 decided on a 10-digit telephone numbering plan in Benin. This plan was officially adopted on November 30.

10-digit telephone dialing aims to meet the growing dialing needs brought about by the rise of connected services and machine-to-machine communications. For example, telephone calls in Benin now follow a 10-digit numbering plan. According to the Minister of Digital Affairs, this historic transition is part of the vision of modernization led by President Patrice Talon. For her, “it is a key step for the development of electronic communications in our country.” Now, all numbers must be preceded by the prefix “01", regardless of the operator. This change ensures better management of telephone resources in the long term.
