La Court for the Suppression of Economic and Financial Offences (CRIEF) has found former Defence Minister Mohamed Diane guilty of embezzlement of public funds, illicit enrichment, money laundering and corruption of public officials. It was last Wednesday December 18.

Just two weeks after the conviction of the former President of the National Assembly Amadou Damaro Camara, the Guinean CRIEF handed down a heavy sentence against the former Minister of Defense Mohamed Diane. He was found guilty of embezzlement of public funds, illicit enrichment, money laundering and bribery of public officials. He was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of 550,000 euros as requested by the Public Prosecutor's Office in its requisitions. The confiscation of all his real estate built in Kankan and Conakry was ordered by judge Yacouba Conte, as well as the seizure of all his bank accounts in foreign currency and Guinean francs. Justice has since accused him of having built up a colossal real estate asset from his ministry's budget
