The Ministry of Finance and Budget signed a decree on January 6, 2025 according to which vehicle owners in Côte d'Ivoire will have to adapt to new regulations before they can take out a car insurance contract.

Order No. 0007/MFB/CAB, sent to the Association of Insurance Companies of Côte d'Ivoire (ASA-CI), states that the validity of the technical inspection certificate is a mandatory condition for any insurance subscription. It is changing practices by systematically linking car insurance to the validity of the technical inspection certificate. According to the information, no contract can be drawn up for a vehicle that does not have this regulatory document. Also, the validity period of the insurance contract must not exceed that of the technical inspection certificate. In fact, this measure is part of the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-2025 style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, serif">, which aims to reduce by 50% the number of deaths due to accidents in the traffic by 2030.
