Find all the economic and financial information on our Orishas Direct application to download on Play StoreOn Thursday, May 8, 2025, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector organization at the World Bank Group, signed with the Executive Council for Sustainable Urban Transport (CETUD) of Senegal, four agreements with the Executive Council of Sustainable Urban Transport (CETUD) of Senegal, four agreements for the development of partnership projects. The signatures were made in Dakar.
Public-private partnership (PPP) projects aim to improve transport in Dakar. According to a joint note from CETUD and IFC, “these projects focus on alternative and climate-resilient transport systems. They will provide sustainable and low-carbon solutions and improve urban mobility, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.” In order to implement one of the agreements signed, CETUD and IFC want to implement a “development project oriented to public transport, centered on the nerve center of Petersen, in Dakar, around the Rapid Transit Bus line terminal
”.According to the two partners, “this project will contribute to transforming the area into an ecological and low-carbon neighborhood, through various residential developments, including social and commercial housing.” The private partners to be involved in the implementation of the agreements will be selected through tenders and will be responsible for financing, building, operating and maintaining “new systems” of transport.
Thierno Birahim Aw, the director general of CETUD, indicated that: “the agreements signed today for the development and structuring of four projects into PPP [...] confirm our ambition to offer each living area the green and inclusive mobility solutions that populations deserve, considering... addressing the challenges of energy and digital transitions, as well as the significant potential of the private sector in the implementation of our projects.”
