The announcement was made on 10 June in Nice during the Mediterranean Day of the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), during an event organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), during an event organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). Scheduled to begin construction by 2029, it will be the first offshore wind farm in Morocco, which plans to secure more than 52% of its electricity mix from renewable sources by 2030
.The session entitled “Charting the path to a sustainable blue economy: the Mediterranean leads the way” was dedicated to financing and innovation as catalysts for the sustainable blue economy. The discussions, involving government representatives, development agencies, researchers, businesses and civil society actors, focused on financing mechanisms aligned with the priorities of the 2021 Ministerial Declaration on the Sustainable Blue Economy.
One of the highlights of this meeting was the official signing by Spain of an 8.5 million euros commitment in favor of the Blue Mediterranean Partnership. Thanks to this contribution, the available funds now reach 22 million euros, alongside contributions from Sweden, Germany, France and the European Union. These funds will support technical assistance and feasibility studies for projects that would otherwise struggle to obtain large-scale financing from multilateral development banks and
financial institutions.
